Should tattoos be allowed in the workplace?

I chose this topic because it is relevant for young people who want to get a job and are concerned about the attitude of employers to body art.
The question about whether employees should be allowed to have tattoos remains disputable to this day. In my opinion, employers should not view tattoos negatively and there are three points to prove it.
First of all, I strongly believe that having tattoos does not affect the quality of work an employee performed. The quality of work depends primarily on the professional skills and abilities of the employee. Negative attitudes towards highly qualified employees just because they have a tattoo means to discriminate them. As the representative of the company Lush said: “We don’t discriminate on the grounds of color,” she notes, and “our customers don’t care about that; they care about quality customer service.”
Secondly, it reveals the identity of a person and it makes as a consequence the best contact with colleagues. Tattoos may be considered as an "indicator" of a person's self-expression. Moreover, often they mean a lot to people who have them. I think when a person does not have the opportunity to open up at work, it will be rather complicated for him to work in a team. It is a well-known fact that teamwork is the basis of the successful work of any company.
Finally, the opinion that the tattoo is made mostly by criminals is outdated. Breaking this stereotype, the company shows its progressiveness. As it said in the article, a large number of modern corporations such as Lush, Google, and Ikea refused to follow prejudices and now position themselves as a tattoo-friendly employer.
To sum it up, workers with body art can also be qualified and responsible employees. Tattoos help these people to reveal their personality, to tell something about their character without words. Therefore, I am sure tattoos should be allowed in the workplace.
Katya,
ОтветитьУдалитьthanks for sharing your essay draft with your peers and me.The development of the arguments in the body of your essay gives the readers a good idea about several aspects of this issue and clearly illustrates your position. It is rather logical and consistent.
There is a problem with references, though, which we'll discuss in class. The thing is that it's not enough to provide the link to the article(s) you have referred to in your work. You need to add the following information:
Author, A. A., & Author, B. B. (Date of publication). Title of article. Title of Online Periodical, volume number (issue number if available). Retrieved from: https://www.someaddress.com/full/url/. Date of access. Date of publication.
IT'S THE BEST ESSEY I'VE EVER READ!!!!!!!!!

Also, you need to add the links to the names of the companies you have mentioned, i.e., Lush, Google, and Ikea. It is impossible to add clickable links in the comments, so I have added the links to remind you how to do it: Lush: https://uk.lush.com/, Google: https://google.com, Ikea: http://ikea.com
